Bahamas
Nestled just east of Florida in the Atlantic, the Bahamas is the closest tropical paradise to the U.S., making it an easy getaway. The archipelago of over 700 islands and cays is known for its turquoise waters, soft white-sand beaches, and vibrant culture. Before visiting, I didn’t realize how diverse the islands really are from lively Nassau to the quiet, secluded and stunning pink sandy beaches in Exumas.
The Bahamas is famous for snorkeling, diving, and swimming with pigs (this is not for everyone), with coral reefs and clear waters easily accessible. The islands offer a mix of adventure and relaxation: historic forts, colorful festivals like Junkanoo, and serene beaches.
It’s ideal for nature lovers, water adventurers, and travelers seeking a peaceful, sunny escape just a short trip from home.
What To Do
The Bahamas is perfect if you’re dreaming of clear blue water but don’t want to travel deep into the Caribbean.
You will find great diving and snorkeling with unforgettable wildlife encounters. Popular activities include swimming with pigs in Exuma, diving the vibrant coral reefs and blue holes in Andros, exploring historic Nassau with its forts and colonial architecture, and relaxing on secluded beaches such as Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island. There is really pink sand!
When To Visit
The most ideal time to visit the Bahamas is December - August. Summer time is considered their shoulder season so it will be cheaper and less crowded.
