A Perfect Girls' Weekend in Charleston: Where Historic Charm Meets Modern Flair
There's something magical about Charleston, South Carolina – where cobblestone streets whisper stories of the past, and southern hospitality flows as freely as sweet tea (and white wine). I recently planned the perfect girls' weekend in this enchanting city, balancing historic tours with modern indulgences, and I'm excited to share our itinerary that hit all the right notes.
Day One: Arrival & First Tastes of Charleston
We arrived early afternoon and immediately immersed ourselves in Charleston's charm. After dropping our bags at our hotel which had a mid-century vibe; The Dewberry, we headed straight for oysters and wine at 167 Raw Oyster Bar where we caught up and had a long lunch with even longer laughs. The perfect beginning to our girls trip.
After lunch we headed to the waterfront, where the iconic Rainbow Row welcomed us with its pastel-painted historic homes. Pro tip: Don't miss the Instagram-worthy Pineapple Fountain at Waterfront Park – it's the perfect spot for your first Charleston photo op.
For our first evening, we had to make the tough choice between two of Charleston's most celebrated restaurants: Husk and FIG. Both showcase the best of modern Southern cuisine, but we opted for Husk, where the menu changes daily based on available local ingredients. The cornbread alone was worth the trip!
We capped off our night at the Citrus Club, perched atop the stylish Dewberry Hotel. This rooftop bar offers breathtaking views of the Holy City's skyline, and their craft cocktails are as impressive as the vista. The citrus-forward drinks perfectly complement Charleston's warm evening air.
Day Two: History, Food, and Ghosts
We started our first full day with a morning carriage tour with Palmetto Carriage Works. There's something special about clip-clopping through historic streets while learning about Charleston's rich history. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining.
For lunch, we joined the Bulldog Food Tour, a 2.5-hour culinary journey through Charleston's most beloved eateries. Between stops, we managed to squeeze in a sweet treat at Peace Pie – their ice cream sandwiches are legendary and provided the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.
The afternoon was dedicated to retail therapy along King Street, where historic architecture houses everything from luxury boutiques to local artisan shops.
Dinner at SNOB (Slightly North of Broad) was a highlight – their shrimp and grits are a must-try. But the real adventure began after dinner with a ghost tour through Charleston's historic district. The city's dark history comes alive after sunset, and our guide's stories sent shivers down our spines.
Day Three: Plantation Life and Southern Comfort
Magnolia Plantation was our morning destination, and it didn't disappoint. The tram tour through the gardens and swamp offered a fascinating glimpse into antebellum life and the natural beauty of the Lowcountry. Take a guided house tour to learn about the property's rich history, then explore the romantic gardens at your own pace. Don't miss the white bridge over the reflecting pool – it's one of the most photographed spots on the property and reminded us of The Notebook.
Lunch at Poogan's Porch rejuvenated us with classic Southern comfort food in a charming Victorian house setting. Their biscuits are heavenly, and the porch seating offers prime people-watching opportunities.
We spent the afternoon exploring the French Quarter, popping into art galleries and boutiques, before heading back to freshen up for our final dinner. We chose Sorelle and it lived up to its reputation with amazing italian dishes.
Final Morning: Sweet Goodbyes
Before departing, we treated ourselves to the Gospel Brunch at Hall's, where soulful music accompanied our final taste of Charleston cuisine. It was the perfect way to wrap up our weekend, leaving us with full hearts and already planning our return trip.

If you are reading this post and traveling with kids I recommend Hotel Bennett as they have a lot to offer families including spacious rooms, a rooftop pool and afternoon tea.
